What are the Different Types of Dental Bridges?

Book Appointment

At Diamond Dental Centre, several types of dental bridges are offered to address missing teeth, each suited to different clinical needs:

Traditional Dental Bridges This is the most common option, featuring a false tooth (pontic) held in place by dental crowns that are cemented onto the healthy abutment teeth on either side of the gap. They are highly reliable for restoring bite alignment, especially in the back of the mouth where chewing forces are high.

Cantilever Bridges Similar to traditional bridges, these are used when there is an adjacent tooth on only one side of the gap. The pontic is supported by a single crown, making them suitable for front teeth gaps where biting forces are lighter.

Maryland Bridges (Resin-Bonded) These are a more conservative, less invasive option typically used for front teeth. Instead of using crowns, the pontic is held in place by metal or porcelain wings that are bonded to the backs of the adjacent teeth with resin.

Implant-Supported Bridges For more extensive tooth loss, bridges can be anchored to dental implants rather than natural teeth. While these require more time for the implants to integrate with the bone, they provide a stable, long-term solution that does not require altering neighboring healthy teeth.
