The Denture Fitting Treatment Journey

We want to ease your concern by helping you understand what to expect during your denture treatment. The process involves an initial consultation, impressions, trial fittings, and final placement—taking place over multiple appointments to ensure a comfortable fit.

Temporary dentures may be used right after tooth extractions, offering the benefit of never being without teeth, but may require adjustments as the healing progresses.

Which Denture Type Suits You Best?

Each denture type comes with its own set of advantages and limitations. Here is a quick comparison:

  1. Partial dentures are non-invasive, preserve your existing teeth (after extraction), and are easy to maintain. They are also budget-friendly. Partial dentures may require adjustments and are not as stable as alternative options.
  2. Full dentures restore oral functionality, provide natural-looking aesthetics, and can be more affordable than implants. However, they require an adjustment period, need regular maintenance, and can lead to fitting issues over time due to bone loss.
  3. Overdentures: Through surgical procedures, overdentures offer superior retention, increased comfort, and help maintain oral health. Placement is supported by remaining roots or through implants.

Keep Your Dentures Lasting Longer

Daily care is essential to preserve your dentures. Here are some tips to ensure long term fit and hygiene of your dentures:

  • Clean your dentures daily using a soft-bristle brush and denture cleaner or mild soap. Avoid household cleaners or abrasive toothpaste that can damage the dentures.
  • After meals, rinse dentures with warm water and dry them carefully with a gentle towel.
  • Keep them in water or a denture cleanser solution to maintain shape and prevent drying out. Never use hot water, as heat can warp or damage the material. If your dentures begin to feel loose or cause irritation, consult your denturist to adjust them to prevent potential complications.
  • Regular check-ups are essential for your denturist to assess oral tissues, evaluate fit, and detect early signs of wear or other oral health issues.

Immediate vs. Conventional Dentures

The timing of your denture placement can have a significant influence on your denture experience. There are two options:

  1. Immediate dentures: Inserted right after extractions, immediate dentures give you instant restoration of function and appearance. However, as your gums heal, these dentures may require multiple adjustments.
  2. Conventional dentures: Fitted after tissue healing, conventional dentures offer a more precise and stable fit with fewer follow-up visits. As expected, you may need a temporary solution during the healing phase.

With your denture procedure, you can be sure we will keep your comfort and experience top of mind!
